Hearseby

1972 Bay Window Hearse

Affectionately known as ‘Hearseby’, the friendly nature and look of this Volkswagen Hearse may help at the very sad event of a funeral. Painted white, in testament to peace, and a simple black or coloured pennant flag identifies him as a funeral vehicle.

Hearsby is a show-winning, extremely rare VW ‘Type 26’ Bay Window Coach Built Hearse – the only one of its kind offered for hire. The original 1972 hearse has been sympathetically restored and is absolutely beautiful.

Contrary to popular belief, Hearseby was never a campervan but a super rare conversion supplied directly from the VW factory. This unique funeral vehicle was a factory commissioned ‘Leichenwagen’ (Hearse) and coach built by a firm called Fritz Freckinger in Augsburg Germany in 1972, and is one of very few remaining in the world today – and the only one known to be in operation in the UK as a funeral vehicle, if not the World.

Ernie

1965 Split Screen Hearse

Ernie is a 1965 Volkswagen split screen 13 window deluxe microbus. With two-tone silver paintwork, stainless steel bumpers, and chrome wheels – Ernie is sure to glisten in the sunshine.

He is originally from Ohio, in the USA, and started life as a minibus – he was then imported, restored, and commissioned as a fully functioning hearse in 2012. A classic-looking retro sound system with an auxiliary input has been installed, should families wish to play a loved ones’ favourite songs (note, this is not a CD player).
